اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ إِلَهِي وَ لِي إِلَيْكَ حَاجَةٌ وَ بِي إِلَيْكَ فَاقَةٌ وَ لَا أَجِدُ إِلَيْكَ شَافِعاً وَ لَا مُتَقَرِّباً أَوْجَهُ فِي نَفْسِي وَ لَا أَعْظَمُ رَجَاءً عِنْدِي مِنْكَ
“O‟ my God! You are my God! I need You and I express my privation to You. I find no one to intercede near You on my behalf, and find nothing in myself greater than my hope in You to make me closer to You.
وَ قَدْ نَصَبْتُ يَدِي إِلَيْكَ فِي تَعْظِيمِ ذِكْرِكَ وَ تَفْخِيمِ أَسْمَائِكَ وَ إِنِّي أُقَدِّمُ إِلَيْكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ حَوَائِجِي بَعْدَ ذِكْرِي نَعْمَاءَكَ عَلَيَّ بِإِقْرَارِي لَكَ وَ مَدْحِي إِيَّاكَ وَ ثَنَائِي عَلَيْكَ وَ تَقْدِيسِي مَجْدَكَ وَ تَسْبِيحِي قُدْسَكَ
Indeed I have extended my hands towards You in exaltation of Your Remembrance and honoring of Your Names. I have also presented my needs to You after mentioning Your Blessings to me with my confessions for You, praising You, glorifying You, sanctifying Your Nobleness, and glorifying Your Sanctity.
الْحَمْدُ لَكَ بِمَا أَوْجَبْتَ عَلَيَّ مِنَ الشُّكْرِ [شُكْرَكَ] وَ عَرَّفْتَنِي مِنْ نَعْمَائِكَ وَ أَلْبَسْتَنِي مِنْ عَافِيَتِكَ
Praise belongs to You for You made it incumbent upon me to thank You, let me know Your Blessings and provided me with health.
وَ أَفْضَلْتَ عَلَيَّ مِنْ جَزِيلِ عَطِيَّتِكَ فَإِنَّكَ قُلْتَ سَيِّدِي لَئِنْ شَكَرْتُمْ لَأَزِيدَنَّكُمْ وَ لَئِنْ كَفَرْتُمْ إِنَّ عَذابِي لَشَدِيدٌ
O‟ my Master! Please honor me with Your Abundant Gifts as You have said, „ If ye are grateful, I will add more (favors) unto you; But if ye show ingratitude, truly My Punishment is terrible indeed.‟Ibrahim14:7
وَ قَوْلُكَ صِدْقٌ وَ وَعْدُكَ حَقٌّ وَ قُلْتَ سَيِّدِي وَ إِنْ تَعُدُّوا نِعْمَتَ اللَّهِ لا تُحْصُوها
Your Words and Your Promise are true. O‟ my Master! You said, „But if ye count the favors of Allah, never will ye be able to number them… Ibrahim14:34.
وَ قُلْتَ ادْعُوا رَبَّكُمْ تَضَرُّعاً وَ خُفْيَةً وَ قُلْتَ ادْعُوهُ خَوْفاً وَ طَمَعاً إِنَّ رَحْمَتَ اللَّهِ قَرِيبٌ مِنَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ
And said, „Call on your Lord with humility and in private…‟4Al-A'raf 7:55. And said, „…but call on Him with fear and longing (in your hearts): for the Mercy of Allah is (always) near to those who do good.‟1
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ قَلِيلًا مِنْ كَثِيرٍ مَعَ حَاجَةٍ بِي إِلَيْهِ عَظِيمَةٌ وَ غِنَاكَ عَنْهُ قَدِيمٌ وَ هُوَ عِنْدِي كَثِيرٌ وَ هُوَ عَلَيْكَ سَهْلٌ يَسِيرٌ
O‟ my God! I ask You for a little from the very much, in the midst of my many needs from You, and You since eternity are able to do without them, but for me it is gigantic while it is very simple and easy for You.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ عَفْوَكَ عَنْ ذَنْبِي وَ تَجَاوُزَكَ عَنْ خَطِيئَتِي وَ صَفْحَكَ عَنْ ظُلْمِي وَ سَتْرَكَ عَلَى قَبِيحِ عَمَلِي وَ حِلْمَكَ عَنْ كَبِيرٍ جُرْمِي عِنْدَ مَا كَانَ مِنْ خَطَئِي وَ عَمْدِي أَطْمَعَنِي
O‟ my God! Truly, when You Pardon my sins, overlook my mistakes, are lenient to my injustice, cover up my foul actions, show forebearance despite my many transgressions committed willfully or negligently, I am tempted to ask You for what I do not deserve.
فِي أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ مَا لَا أَسْتَوْجِبُهُ مِنْكَ فَصِرْتُ أَدْعُوكَ آمِناً وَ أَسْأَلُكَ مُسْتَأْنِساً لَا خَائِفاً وَ لَا وَجِلًا مُدِلًّا عَلَيْكَ فِيمَا قَصَدْتُ فِيهِ إِلَيْكَ فَإِنْ أَبْطَأَ عَنِّي عَتَبْتُ بِجَهْلِي عَلَيْكَ وَ لَعَلَّ الَّذِي أَبْطَأَ عَنِّي هُوَ خَيْرٌ لِي لِعِلْمِكَ بِعَاقِبَةِ الْأُمُورِ
I persist in calling out, believing in You, and I invoke You, talking familiarly, not afraid, or fearful, but assured of You whenever I turn to You. However, even if there is a short delay, I blame You out of my ignorance, perhaps the delay may be a blessing in disguise because You alone know all the consequences.
فَلَمْ أَرَ مَوْلًى كَرِيماً أَصْبَرَ عَلَى عَبْدٍ لَئِيمٍ مِنْكَ عَلَيَّ يَا رَبِّ إِنَّكَ تَدْعُونِي فَأُوَلِّي عَنْكَ وَ تَتَحَبَّبُ إِلَيَّ فَأَتَبَغَّضُ إِلَيْكَ وَ تَتَوَدَّدُ إِلَيَّ فَلَا أَقْبَلُ مِنْكَ كَأَنَّ لِي التَّطَوُّلَ عَلَيْكَ ثُمَّ لَا يَمْنَعُكَ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الرَّحْمَةِ لِي وَ الْإِحْسَانِ إِلَيَّ وَ التَّفَضُّلِ عَلَيَّ بِجُودِكَ وَ كَرَمِكَ
O‟ Lord! I know no generous master who is more accommodating to dissatisfied servants than You are to me. You call me but I turn away from You. You act friendly with me, but I am aggressive with You. You are friends with me, but I do not accept it from you as if I have favored You. This does not prevent You from bestowing Your Mercy and Kindness on me.
فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ وَ ارْحَمْ عَبْدَكَ الْجَاهِلَ وَ عُدْ عَلَيْهِ بِفَضْلِ إِحْسَانِكَ وَ جُودِكَ إِنَّكَ جَوَادٌ كَرِيمُ.
Please favor me with Your Generosity and Kindness. Please bestow Your Blessings on Muhammad and his Progeny (MGB), have Mercy on Your ignorant servant, and grant him by Your Kindness and Benevolence. Verily You are Benevolent and Kind.‟ ”
