اللَّهُمَّ لَا تُؤَدِّبْنِي بِعُقُوبَتِكَ

“O‟ my God! Please do not discipline me with Your Punishment.

وَ لَا تَمْكُرْ بِي فِي حِيلَتِكَ

Do not subject me to Your Planned Strategy.

مِنْ أَيْنَ لِيَ الْخَيْرُ لِطَاعَتِكَ.

Where can I obtain bounties while none can be found except with You?

وَ لَا يُوجَدُ إِلَّا مِنْ عِنْدِكَ وَ مِنْ أَيْنَ لِيَ

And how can I seek salvation while it can be granted by none but You?

وَ لَا تُسْتَطَاعُ إِلَّا بِكَ لَا الَّذِي أَحْسَنَ اسْتَغْنَى عَنْكَ وَ لَا الَّذِي أَسَاءَ وَ اجْتَرَأَ النَّجَاةُ عَلَيْكَ‌ خَرَجَ مِنْ قُدْرَتِكَ

Neither can good-doers do without You, nor can evil-doers depart from the realm of Your Power!

يَا رَبِّ بِكَ عَرَفْتُكَ وَ أَنْتَ دَلَلْتَنِي عَلَيْكَ وَ لَوْ لَا أَنْتَ مَا دَرَيْتُ مَنْ أَنْتَ

I know You by You, and You directed me to You and without You I would not have known what You are.

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَدْعُوهُ فِيُجِيبُنِي وَ إِنْ كُنْتُ بَطِيئاً حِينَ يَدْعُونِي

Praise be to God who answers me whenever I call Him, even though I am sluggish when He calls upon me.

وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَسْأَلُهُ فَيُعْطِينِي وَ إِنْ كُنْتُ بَخِيلًا حِينَ يَسْتَقْرِضُنِي

And praise be to God who grants me whatever I ask for even though I am stingy when He asks me for a loan.

وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي وَكَلَنِي إِلَيْهِ فَأَكْرَمَنِي وَ لَمْ يَكِلْنِي إِلَى النَّاسِ فَيُهِينُونِي

And praise be to God Who honored me by taking charge of my affairs, instead of leaving my affairs to others who may humiliate me.

وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي تَحَبَّبَ إِلَيَّ وَ هُوَ غَنِيٌّ عَنِّي

And praise be to God Who endeared me although He is needless of me.

اللَّهُمَّ لَا أَجِدُ شَافِعاً إِلَيْكَ إِلَّا مَعْرِفَتِي بِأَنَّكَ أَفْضَلُ مَنْ قَصَدَ إِلَيْهِ الْمُضْطَرُّونَ

O‟ my God! I find no one to intercede with You on my behalf except for my knowledge that You are the best to whom the distressed ones go to.

َأسْأَلُكَ مُقِرّاً بِأَنَّ لَكَ الطَّوْلَ وَ الْقُوَّةَ وَ الْحَوْلَ وَ الْقُدْرَةَ

I ask You while I am confessing to the fact that You are the Lord of Bestowals and Strength, Might and Power.

أَنْ تَحُطَّ عَنِّي وِزْرِيَ الَّذِي قَدْ حَنَا ظَهْرِي

I ask You to lift the heavy burden of sins that has bent my back,

وَ تَعْصِمُنِي مِنَ الْهَوَى الْمُسَلَّطِ عَلَى عَقْلِي

protect me from lust that is overpowering my intellect,

وَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَنِي مِنَ الَّذِينَ انْتَجَبْتَهُمْ

and let me be amongst those that You have chosen for Your Obedience.”
