[00:01.00]

ilahi in kuntu qad `asaytuka

O Allah, if I have disobeyed you,

[00:09.00]

fa'inni qad ata`tuka fi ahabbi al-ashya'i ilayka

I have also obeyed you in the things that You most like.

[00:15.00]

lam attakhidh laka waladan

I have not claimed that You have child

[00:18.00]

wa lam ad`u laka sharikan

and I have not associated any one with You.

[00:21.00]

wa qad `asaytuka fi ashya'a kathiratin

Yet, I have disobeyed You in many things

[00:29.00]

`ala ghayri wajhi almukabarati laka

on account of neither defiance,

[00:32.00]

wa la alistikbari `an `ibadatika

nor my being too arrogant to serve You,

[00:39.00]

wa la aljuhudi lirububiyyatika

nor denial of Your Godhead,

[00:44.00]

wa la alkhuruji `an al`ubudiyyati laka

nor mutiny against my servitude to You;

[00:51.00]

wa lakin ittba`tu hawaya

rather, I only followed my lusts

[00:56.00]

wa azallaniya alshshaytanu ba`da alhujjati walbayani

and Satan caused me to slip although You have clear argument against me.

[01:03.00]

fa'in tu`adhdhibni fabidhunubi ghayra zalimin anta li

Thus, if You chastise me, then it is on account of my sins and You are never unjust to me.

[01:11.00]

wa in ta`fu `anni wa tarhamni

And if You pardon me and have mercy upon me,

[01:16.00]

fabijudika wa karamika ya karimu

then this is out of Your magnanimity and generosity, O All-generous!

[01:23.00]

ghadawtu bihawli allahi wa quwwatihi

I begin this day with the might and power of Allah.

You may also say the following:

[01:29.00]

ghadawtu bighayri hawlin minni wa la quwwatin

I do not begin it with my might or power;

[01:34.00]

wa lakin bihawli allahi wa quwwatihi

rather, with Allah’s might and power.

[01:39.00]

ya rabbi as'aluka barakata hadha albayti wa barakata ahlihi

O my Lord, I beseech You for the blessing of this house and the blessing of its people

[01:48.00]

wa as'aluka an tarzuqani rizqan halalan tayyiban

and I pray You to grant me sustenance from Your sustenance; sustenance that is legal and pleasant,

[01:55.00]

tasuquhu ilayya bihawlika wa quwwatika

and that You bring it to me by Your might and Power,

[02:01.00]

wa ana kha'izun fi `afiyatika

while I experience good health.

[02:07.00]

ilahi in kuntu qad `asaytuka fa'inni qad ata`tuka fi ahabbi al-ashya'i ilayka…

O my God, if I have disobeyed You, I have indeed obeyed You in the nearest thing to Yo

According to an authoritative narration, Abu-Hamzah al-Thumali reported that he was one day sitting in the grand mosque of al-Kufah when a man entered from bab kindah. His face was indeed the prettiest, he smelt the nicest perfume, and he put on the cleanest dress. He also put a turban, a shirt, and a jubbah (a type of long open cloth coat with wide sleeves). As he was also wearing Arabian slippers, he took them off when he entered the mosque. He then stopped near the sixth column of the mosque, raised his hands to the level of his ears and uttered a takbir statement (i.e. saying allahu-akbar) that was so reverent that my entire body shivered. He then offered a four-unit prayer with excellent genuflection and prostration. At accomplishment, he uttered the prayer that begins with this statement:

[02:07.05

ya karimu ya karimu ya karimu

O All-generous! O All-generous! O All-generous!He prostrated himself and repeated this word as much as one breath may take. He then said while prostrating:

u…When he reached at the statement:

[02:07.15]

ya man yaqdiru `ala hawa'iji alssa'ilina…

O He Who has full power over granting the requests of the beseechers…

[02:07.30]

ya sayyidi

O my Master.

He then repeated the following word seventy times:

When he raised his head, I looked at him closely and could conclude that he was Zayn al-`ªbidin (as). I thus kissed his hand and asked him what had caused him to come to the mosque. The Imam (as) answered, “As you have seen.” (i.e. I came here to offer prayers the al-Kufah Mosque)… etc. At the end of the seventh form of the untimed ziyarah of Imam `Ali (as), we have mentioned this story but with a little difference due to the difference of the reports. We have also mentioned that the Imam (`a) suggested to Abu-Hamzah al-Thumali that he would accompany him to visiting the holy tomb of Imam `Ali (as) and the man agreed… etc.
