1.Yaw ayyuhal muzzammil
1.O you wrapped up in your mantle!
[00:05.00]
2.Qumil laila illaa qaleelaa
2.Stand vigil through the night, except for a little [of it],
[00:09.00]
3.Nisfahooo awinqus minhu qaleelaa
3.a half, or reduce a little from that
[00:15.00]
4.Aw zid 'alaihi wa rattilil Qur'aana tarteela
4.or add to it, and recite the Quran in a measured tone.
[00:21.00]
5.Innaa sanulqee 'alika qawalan saqeelaa
5.Indeed soon We shall cast on you a weighty discourse.
[00:27.00]
6.Inn naashi'atal laili hiya ashadddu wat anw wa aqwamu qeelaa
6.Indeed the watch of the night is firmer in tread and more upright in respect to speech,
[00:35.00]
7.Inna laka fin nahaari sabhan taweelaa
7.for indeed during the day you have drawn-out engagements.
[00:41.00]
8.Wazkuris ma rabbika wa tabattal ilaihi tabteelaa
8.So celebrate the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself to Him with total dedication.
[00:46.00]
9.Rabbul mashriqi wal maghriibi laaa ilaaha illaa Huwa fattakhizhu wakeelaa
9.Lord of the east and the west, there is no god except Him; so take Him for your trustee,
[00:55.00]
10.Wasbir 'alaa maa yaqoo loona wahjurhum hajran jameelaa
10.and be patient over what they say, and distance yourself from them in a graceful manner.
[01:03.00]
11.Leave Me [to deal] with the deniers, the opulent, and give them a little respite.
[01:10.00]
12.Inna ladainaaa ankaalanw wa jaheemaa
12.Indeed with Us are heavy fetters and a fierce fire,
[01:18.00]
13.Wa ta'aaman zaa ghussa tinw wa'azaaban aleemaa
13.and a food that chokes [those who eat it], and a painful punishment [prepared for]
[01:25.00]
14.Yawma tarjuful ardu waljibaalu wa kaanatil jibaalu kaseebam maheelaa
14.the day when the earth and the mountains will quake, and the mountains will be like dunes of shifting sand.
[01:34.00]
15.Innaa arsalnaaa ilaikum rasoolan shahidan 'alikum kamaaa arsalnaaa ilaa Fir'awna Rasoolna
15.Indeed We have sent to you an apostle, to be a witness to you, just as We sent an apostle to Pharaoh.
[01:52.00]
16.Fa'asaa Fir'awnur Rasoola fa akhaznaahu akhzanw wabeelaa
16.But Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a terrible seizing.
[01:59.00]
17.Fakaifa tattaqoona in kafartum yawmany yaj'alul wildaana sheeba
17.So, if you disbelieve, how will you avoid the day, which will make children white-headed,
[02:08.00]
18.Assamaaa'u munfatirum bih; kaana wa'duhoo maf'oola
18.and wherein the sky will be rent apart? His promise is bound to be fulfilled.
[02:18.00]
19.Inna haazihee tazkiratun fa man shaaa'at takhaza ilaa Rabbihee sabeelaa
19.This is indeed a reminder. So let anyone who wishes take the way toward his Lord.
[02:29.00]
20.Inna Rabbaka ya'lamu annaka taqoomu adnaa min sulusa yil laili wa nisfahoo wa sulusahoo wa taaa'ifatum minal lazeena ma'ak; wal laahu yuqaddirul laila wanna haar; 'alima al lan tuhsoohu fataaba 'alaikum faqra'oo maa tayassara minal quraan; 'alima an sa yakoonu minkum mardaa wa aakharoona yadriboona fil ardi yabtaghoona min fadlil laahi wa aakharoona yuqaatiloona fee sabeelil laahi faqra'oo ma tayassara minhu wa aqeemus salaata wa aatuz zakaata wa aqridul laaha qardan hasanaa; wa maa tuqadimoo li anfusikum min khairin tajidoohu 'indal laahi huwa khayranw wa a'zama ajraa; wastaghfirul laahaa innal laaha ghafoorur raheem.
20.Indeed your Lord knows that you stand vigil for nearly two thirds of the night—or [at times] a half or a third of it—along with a group of those who are with you. Allah measures the night and the day. He knows that you cannot calculate it [exactly], and so He was lenient toward you. So recite as much of the Quran as is feasible. He knows that some of you will be sick, while others will travel in the land seeking Allah’s bounty, and yet others will fight in the way of Allah. So recite as much of it as is feasible, and maintain the prayer and pay the zakat and lend Allah a good loan. Whatever good you send ahead for your souls you will find it with Allah [in a form] that is better and greater with respect to reward. And plead to Allah for forgiveness; indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.
