The Ascending Stairways
Surah-70 | Ayahs-44
Before reciting Holy Quran

بِسْمِ اللّٰہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
[00:00.02]
سَاَلَ سَآئِلٌ ۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَّاقِعٍۙ﴿1﴾
1.Sa ala saaa'ilum bi'azaa binw-waaqi'
1.An asker asked for a punishment sure to befall
[00:07.00]
لِّلْكٰفِرِيْنَ لَيْسَ لَهٗ دَافِعٌ ۙ﴿2﴾
2.Lilkaafireen laisa lahoo daafi'
2.—which none can avert from the faithless —
[00:11.00]
مِّنَ اللّٰهِ ذِى الْمَعَارِجِؕ﴿3﴾
3.Minal laahi zil ma'aarij
3.from Allah, Lord of the lofty stations.
[00:15.00]
تَعْرُجُ الْمَلٰٓئِكَةُ وَ الرُّوْحُ اِلَيْهِ فِیْ يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهٗ خَمْسِيْنَ اَلْفَ سَنَةٍۚ﴿4﴾
4.Ta'rujul malaaa'ikatu war Roohu ilaihi fee yawmin kaana miqdaaruhoo khamseena alfa sanah
4.The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in a day whose span is fifty thousand years.
[00:28.00]
فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيْلًا﴿5﴾
5.Fasbir ssabran jameelaa
5.So be patient, with a patience that is graceful.
[00:32.00]
اِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهٗ بَعِيْدًا ۙ﴿6﴾
6.Inaahum yarawnahoo ba'eedaa
6.Indeed they see it to be far off,
[00:36.00]
وَّنَرٰٮهُ قَرِيْبًا ؕ﴿7﴾
7.Wa naraahu qareebaa
7.and We see it to be near.
[00:39.00]
يَوْمَ تَكُوْنُ السَّمَآءُ كَالْمُهْلِۙ﴿8﴾
8.Yawma takoonus samaaa'u kalmuhl
8.The day when the sky will be like molten copper,
[00:44.00]
وَتَكُوْنُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِۙ﴿9﴾
9.Wa takoonul jibaalu kal'ihn
9.and the mountains like [tufts of] dyed wool,
[00:48.00]
وَلَا يَسْئَلُ حَمِيْمٌ حَمِيْمًا ۖۚ﴿10﴾
10.Wa laa yas'alu hameemun hameemaa
10.and no friend will inquire about [the welfare of his] friend,
[00:52.00]
يُّبَصَّرُوْنَهُمْؕ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِىْ مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۢ بِبَنِيْهِۙ﴿11﴾
11.Yubassaroonahum; ya waddul mujrimu law yaftadee min 'azaabi yawma'izim bibaneeh
11.[though] they will be placed within each other’s sight. The guilty one will wish he could ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children,
[01:05.00]
وَ صَاحِبَتِهٖ وَاَخِيْهِۙ﴿12﴾
12.Wa saahibatihee wa akheeh
12.his spouse and his brother,
[01:09.50]
وَفَصِيْلَتِهِ الَّتِىْ تُئْوِيْهِۙ﴿13﴾
13.Wa faseelathil latee tu'weeh
13.his kin, which had sheltered him
[01:15.00]
وَمَنْ فِى الْاَرْضِ جَمِيْعًا ۙ ثُمَّ يُنْجِيْهِۙ﴿14﴾
14.Wa man fil ardi jamee'an summa yunjeeh
14.and all those who are upon the earth, if that might deliver him.
[01:25.00]
كَلَّاؕ اِنَّهَا لَظٰىۙ﴿15﴾
15.Kallaa innahaa lazaa
15.Never! Indeed, it is a blazing fire,
[01:30.00]
نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوٰى ۖۚ﴿16﴾
16.Nazzaa'atal lishshawaa
16.which strips away the scalp.
[01:34.00]
تَدْعُوْا مَنْ اَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلّٰىۙ﴿17﴾
17.Tad'oo man adbara wa tawallaa
17.It invites him, who has turned back [from the truth] and forsaken [it],
[01:37.00]
وَجَمَعَ فَاَوْعٰى﴿18﴾
18.W jama'a fa aw'aa
18.amassing [wealth] and hoarding [it].
[01:40.00]
اِنَّ الْاِنْسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوْعًا ۙ﴿19﴾
19.Innal insaana khuliqa haloo'aa
19.Indeed man has been created covetous:
[01:46.00]
اِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوْعًا ۙ﴿20﴾
20.Izaa massahush sharru jazoo'aa
20.anxious when an ill befalls him
[01:49.00]
وَاِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوْعًا ۙ﴿21﴾
21.Wa izaa massahul khairu manoo'aa
21.and grudging [charity] when good comes his way
[01:53.00]
اِلَّا الْمُصَلِّيْنَۙ﴿22﴾
22.Illal musalleen
22.—[all are such] except the prayerful,
[01:57.00]
الَّذِيْنَ هُمْ عَلٰى صَلَاتِهِمْ دَآئِمُوْنَ۪ ۙ﴿23﴾
23.Allazeena hum 'alaa Salaatihim daaa'imoon
23.those who persevere in their prayers
[02:05.00]
وَالَّذِيْنَ فِیْۤ اَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُوْمٌ۪ ۙ﴿24﴾
24.Wallazeena feee amwaalihim haqqum ma'loom
24.and there is a known share in whose wealth
[02:14.00]
لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَالْمَحْرُوْمِ۪ ۙ﴿25﴾
25.Lissaaa 'ili walmahroom
25.for the beggar and the deprived,
[02:20.00]
وَالَّذِيْنَ يُصَدِّقُوْنَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّيْنِ۪ ۙ﴿26﴾
26.Wallazeena yusaddiqoona bi yawmid Deen
26.and who affirm the Day of Retribution,
[02:26.00]
وَالَّذِيْنَ هُمْ مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِمْ مُّشْفِقُوْنَۚ﴿27﴾
27.Wallazeena hum min 'azaabi Rabbihim mushfiqoon
27.and those who are apprehensive of the punishment of their Lord
[02:35.00]
اِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَاْمُوْنٍ﴿28﴾
28.Inna 'azaaba Rabbihim ghairu maamoon
28.(there is indeed no security from the punishment of their Lord)
[02:41.00]
وَالَّذِيْنَ هُمْ لِفُرُوْجِهِمْ حٰفِظُوْنَۙ﴿29﴾
29.Wallazeena hum lifuroo jihim haafizoon
29.and those who guard their private parts
[02:47.00]
اِلَّا عَلٰٓى اَزْوَاجِهِمْ اَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ اَيْمَانُهُمْ فَاِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُوْمِيْنَۚ﴿30﴾
30.Illaa 'alaaa azwaajihim aw maa malakat aymaanuhum fainnahum ghairu maloomeen
30.(apart from their spouses and their slave women, for then they are not blameworthy;
[03:00.00]
فَمَنِ ابْتَغٰى وَرَآءَ ذٰلِكَ فَاُولٰٓئِكَ هُمُ الْعٰدُوْنَۚ﴿31﴾
31.Famanib taghaa waraaa'a zaalika fa ulaaa'ika humul 'aadoon
31.but whoever seeks beyond that—it is they who are the transgressors)
[03:10.00]
وَالَّذِيْنَ هُمْ لِاَمٰنٰتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رٰعُوْنَ۪ ۙ﴿32﴾
32.Wallazeena hum li amaa naatihim wa 'ahdihim raa'oon
32.and those who keep their trusts and covenants,
[03:18.00]
وَالَّذِيْنَ هُمْ بِشَهٰدٰتِهِمْ قَآئِمُوْنَ۪ ۙ﴿33﴾
33.Wallazeena hum bishahaadaatihim qaaa'imoon
33.and those who are observant of their testimonies,
[03:27.00]
وَالَّذِيْنَ هُمْ عَلٰى صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُوْنَؕ﴿34﴾
34.Wallazeena hum 'alaa salaatihim yuhaafizoon
34.and those who are watchful of their prayers.
[03:34.00]
اُولٰٓئِكَ فِیْ جَنّٰتٍ مُّكْرَمُوْنَؕ۠ ﴿35﴾
35.Ulaaa'ika fee jannaatim mukramoon
35.They will be in gardens, held in honour.
[03:43.00]
فَمَالِ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِيْنَۙ﴿36﴾
36.Famaa lil lazeena kafaroo qibalaka muhti'een
36.What is the matter with the faithless that they scramble toward you,
[03:49.00]
عَنِ الْيَمِيْنِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِيْنَ﴿37﴾
37.'Anil yameeni wa 'anish shimaali 'izeen
37.from left and right, in groups?
[03:55.00]
اَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِىءٍ مِّنْهُمْ اَنْ يُّدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيْمٍۙ﴿38﴾
38.Ayatma'u kullum ri'im minhum anyyudkhala jannata Na'eem
38.Does each man among them hope to enter the garden of bliss?
[04:05.00]
كَلَّا ؕ اِنَّا خَلَقْنٰهُمْ مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُوْنَ﴿39﴾
39.Kallaaa innaa khalaq nahum mimmaa ya'lamoon
39.Never! Indeed, We created them from what they know.
[04:15.00]
فَلَاۤ اُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشٰرِقِ وَالْمَغٰرِبِ اِنَّا لَقٰدِرُوْنَۙ﴿40﴾
40.Falaaa uqsimu bi Rabbil mashaariqi wal maghaaribi innaa laqaadiroon
40.So I swear by the Lord of the easts and the wests that We are able
[04:25.00]
عَلٰٓى اَنْ نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْۙ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوْقِيْنَ﴿41﴾
41.'Alaaa an nubaddila khairam minhum wa maa Nahnu bimasbooqeen
41.to replace them with [others] better than them and We are not to be outmaneuvered.
[04:36.00]
فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوْضُوْا وَيَلْعَبُوْا حَتّٰى يُلٰقُوْا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِىْ يُوْعَدُوْنَۙ﴿42﴾
42.Fazarhum yakhoodoo wa yal'aboo hattaa yulaaqoo yaw mahumul lazee yoo'adoon
42.So leave them to gossip and play till they encounter the day they are promised:
[04:47.00]
يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُوْنَ مِنَ الْاَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَاَنَّهُمْ اِلٰى نُصُبٍ يُّوْفِضُوْنَۙ﴿43﴾
43.Yawma yakhrujoona minal ajdaasi siraa'an ka anna hum ilaa nusubiny yoofidoon
43.the day when they emerge from graves, hastening, as if racing toward a target,
[04:59.00]
خَاشِعَةً اَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ؕ ذٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِىْ كَانُوْا يُوْعَدُوْنَ۠ ﴿44﴾
44.Khaashi'atan absaaruhum tarhaquhum zillah; zaalikal yawmul lazee kaanoo yoo'adoon
44.with a humbled look [in their eyes], overcast by abasement. That is the day they had been promised.
