أَللَّهُمَّ يَا ذَا الْمُلْكِ الْمُتأبِّدِ بِالْخُلُودِ وَالْسُلْطَانِ
Allāhumma yā dhā al-mulki al-muta’abbidi bi-al-khulūd wa aṣ-ṣulṭān,
O God, O Possessor of the everlasting kingdom through eternity and dominion,
الْمُمْتَنِعِ بِغَيْرِ جُنُود وَلاَ أَعْوَان،
al-mumtani‘i bi-ghayri junūd wa lā a‘wān,
the Unassailable without armies or helpers,
وَالْعِزِّ الْبَاقِي عَلَى مَرِّ الدُّهُورِ،
wa al-‘izzi al-bāqī ‘alā marri ad-duhūr,
and the Enduring Might throughout the passing of ages,
وَخَوَالِي الأَعْوَامِ، وَمَوَاضِي الأَزْمَانِ وَالأيَّامِ،
wa khawālī al-a‘wām, wa mawāḍī al-azmān wa al-ayyām,
the long-passed years, and the elapsed times and days!
عَزَّ سُلْطَانُكَ عِزّاً لا حَدَّ لَهُ بِأَوَّلِيَّةٍ وَلاَ مُنْتَهَى لَهُ بِآخِرِيَّةٍ،
‘azza sulṭānuka ‘izzan lā ḥadda lahū bi-awwaliyyah wa lā muntahā lahū bi-ākhiriyyah,
Your dominion is Mighty with a Might that has no limit in beginning and no end in finality,
وَاسْتَعْلَى مُلْكُكَ عُلُوّاً سَقَطَتِ الأشْيَاءُ دُونَ بُلُوغِ أَمَدِهِ
wa ista‘lā mulkuka ‘uluwwan saqaṭati al-ashyā’u dūna bulūghi amadih,
and Your kingdom is exalted with an Exaltation below the attainment of whose term all things fall short,
وَلاَ يَبْلُغُ أَدْنَى مَا اسْتَأثَرْتَ بِـهِ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أَقْصَى نَعْتِ النَّـاعِتِينَ.
wa lā yablughu adnā mā ista’tharta bihī min dhālika aqṣā na‘ti an-nā‘itīn.
and the utmost description of the describers does not reach the least of what You have singled out for Yourself of that.
ضَلَّتْ فِيْـكَ الصِّفَاتُ وَتَفَسْخَتْ دُونَكَ النُّعُوتُ
Ḍallat fīka aṣ-ṣifātu wa tafassakhat dūnakā an-nu‘ūt,
The attributes have been lost concerning You, and the descriptions have been dissolved below You,
وَحَارَتْ فِي كِبْرِيِائِكَ لَطَائِفُ الأوْهَامِ،
wa ḥārat fī kibriyā’ika laṭā’ifu al-awhām,
and the subtleties of imaginings are bewildered in Your Grandeur.
كَذلِكَ أَنْتَ اللهُ الأَوَّلُ فِي أَوَّلِيَّتِكَ،
Kadhālika anta Allāhu al-Awwalu fī awwaliyyatik,
Thus are You, God, the First in Your primordiality,
وَعَلَى ذَلِكَ أَنْتَ دَائِمٌ لا تَزُولُ،
wa ‘alā dhālika anta dā’imun lā tazūl,
and upon that You are Everlasting, You do not pass away.
وَأَنَا الْعَبْدُ الضَّعِيْفُ عَمَلاً الجَسِيْمُ أَمَلاً،
Wa anā al-‘abdu aḍ-ḍa‘īfu ‘amalan al-jasīmu amalan,
And I am the servant, weak in deed, tremendous in hope,
خَرَجَتْ مِنْ يَدِي أَسْبَابُ الْوُصُلاَت إلاّ مَا وَصَلَهُ رَحْمَتُكَ ،
kharajat min yadī asbābu al-wuṣulāt illā mā waṣalahū raḥmatuk,
the means of connections have passed from my hand, save what Your Mercy connects,
وَتَقَطَّعَتْ عَنِّي عِصَمُ الآمَالِ
wa taqaṭṭa‘at ‘annī ‘iṣamu al-āmāl
and the ties of hopes have been cut off from me,
إلاّ مَا أَنَا مُعْتَصِمٌ بِهِ مِنْ عَفْوِكَ،
illā mā anā mu‘taṣimun bihī min ‘afwik,
save what I cling to of Your Pardon.
قَلَّ عِنْدِي مَا أَعْتَدُّ بِهِ مِنْ طَاعَتِكَ
Qalla ‘indī mā a‘taddu bihī min ṭā‘atik
Little is what I hold in esteem of my obedience to You,
وَكَثُرَ عَلَيَّ مَا أَبُوءُ بِهِ مِنْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ،
wa kathura ‘alayya mā abū’u bihī min ma‘ṣiyatik,
and much is what I acknowledge of my disobedience to You.
وَلَنْ يَضِيْقَ عَلَيْكَ عَفْوٌ عَنْ عَبْدِكَ وَإنْ أَسَاءَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي.
Wa lan yaḍīqa ‘alayka ‘afwun ‘an ‘abdika wa in asā’a fa-‘fu ‘annī.
And Your pardon will not be too difficult for You regarding Your servant, even if he did wrong, so pardon me.
أَللَّهًمَّ وَقَدْ أَشْرَفَ عَلَى خَفَايَا الأَعْمَالِ عِلْمُكَ
Allāhumma wa qad ashrafa ‘alā khafāyā al-a‘māl ‘ilmuk
O God, Your knowledge has looked over the hidden parts of deeds,
وَانْكَشَفَ كُلُّ مَسْتُور دُونَ خُبْرِكَ
wa inkashafa kullu mastūrin dūna khubrik
and every concealed thing has been unveiled before Your awareness,
وَلاَ تَنْطَوِي عَنْكَ دَقَائِقُ الأُمُورِ
wa lā tanṭawī ‘anka daqā’iqu al-umūr
and the subtleties of affairs are not folded up from You,
وَلاَ تَعْزُبُ عَنْكَ غَيِّبَاتُ السَّرَائِرِ،
wa lā ta‘zubu ‘anka ghayyibātu as-sarā’ir,
nor are the hidden things of secrets absent from You.
وَقَدِ اسْتَحْوَذَ عَلَيَّ عَدُوُّكَ الَّذِي اسْتَنْظَرَكَ لِغِوَايتِي فَأَنْظَرْتَهُ،
Wa qad istaḥwadha ‘alayya ‘aduwwuka alladhī istanẓaraka li-ghiwāyatī fa-anẓartah,
And Your enemy has overcome me—the one who asked You for a respite to lead me astray, and You granted him respite,
وَاسْتَمْهَلَكَ إلَى يَوْمِ الدِّيْنِ لاِضْلاَلِي فَأَمْهَلْتَهُ،
wa istamhalaka ilā yawmi ad-dīn li-iḍlālī fa-amhaltah,
and who asked You for a delay until the Day of Judgment to mislead me, and You gave him a delay.
فَأوْقَعَنِيْ وَقَدْ هَرَبْتُ إلَيْكَ
Fa-awqa‘anī wa qad harabtu ilayk
So he made me fall, while I was fleeing to You,
مِنْ صَغَائِرِ ذُنُوبٍ مُوبِقَةٍ
min ṣaghā’iri dhunūbin mūbiqah
from minor sins that destroy,
وَكَبَائِرِ أَعْمَالٍ مُرْدِيَـةٍ
wa kabā’iri a‘mālin murdiyah
and major deeds that ruin,
حَتَّى إذَا قَارَفْتُ مَعْصِيَتَـكَ
ḥattā idhā qāraftu ma‘ṣiyatak
until when I committed an act of disobedience to You,
وَاسْتَوْجَبْتُ بِسُوءِ سَعْيِي سَخْطَتَكَ
wa istawjabu bi-sū’i sa‘yī sakhaṭatak
and incurred Your wrath through my evil striving,
فَتَلَ عَنِّي عِذَارَ غَدْرِهِ،
fatala ‘annī ‘idhāra ghadrih,
he twisted the rope of his treachery away from me,
وَتَلَقَّانِي بكَلِمَةِ كُفْرهِ،
wa talaqqānī bi-kalimati kufrih,
and met me with his word of ingratitude,
وَتَوَلَّى الْبَراءَةَ مِنِّي وَأَدْبَرَ مُوَلِّيَاً عَنِّي،
wa tawallā al-barā’ata minnī wa adbara muwalliyan ‘annī,
and he assumed innocence of me and turned away, retreating from me.
فَأَصْحَرنِي لِغَضَبِكَ فَرِيداً،
Fa-aṣḥaranī li-ghaḍabika farīdā,
So he left me exposed to Your wrath, alone,
وَأَخْرَجَني إلى فِنَاءِ نَقِمَتِكَ طَرِيداً
wa akhrajanī ilā finā’i naqimatika ṭarīdā
and expelled me to the courtyard of Your vengeance, driven out.
لاَ شَفِيعٌ يَشْفَعُ لِيْ إلَيْـكَ،
Lā shafī‘un yashfa‘u lī ilayk,
There is no intercessor to intercede for me with You,
وَلاَ خَفِيـرٌ يُؤْمِنُنِي عَلَيْـكَ
wa lā khafīrun yu’minunī ‘alayk
and no protector to grant me security from You,
وَلاَ حِصْنٌ يَحْجُبُنِي عَنْكَ
wa lā ḥiṣnun yaḥjubunī ‘ank
and no fortress to veil me from You,
وَلاَ مَلاَذٌ أَلْجَأُ إلَيْهِ مِنْكَ.
wa lā malādhun alja’u ilayhī mink.
and no refuge to shelter in from You.
فَهَذَا مَقَامُ الْعَائِذِ بِكَ، وَمَحَلُّ الْمُعْتَرِفِ لَكَ،
Fa-hādhā maqāmu al-‘ā’idhi bik, wa maḥallu al-mu‘tarif lak,
So this is the station of the one seeking refuge in You, and the place of the one confessing to You,
فَلاَ يَضِيقَنَّ عَنِّي فَضْلُكَ، وَلا يَقْصُـرَنَّ دونِي عَفْوُكَ،
fa-lā yaḍīqanna ‘annī faḍluk, wa lā yaqṣuranna dūnī ‘afwuk,
so let Your Favor not become narrow for me, and let Your Pardon not fall short of me,
وَلا أكُنْ أَخْيَبَ عِبَادِكَ التَّائِبِينَ،
wa lā akun akhyaba ‘ibādika at-tā’ibīn,
and let me not be the most disappointed of Your repenting servants,
وَلاَ أَقْنَطَ وفُودِكَ الآمِلِينَ
wa lā aqnaṭa wufūdika al-āmilīn
and not the most despairing of Your hopeful delegations.
وَاغْفِرْ لِي إنَّكَ خَيْرُ الْغَافِرِينَ.
Wa ighfir lī innaka khayru al-ghāfirīn.
And forgive me, surely You are the best of those who forgive.
أَللَّهُمَّ إنَّكَ أَمَرْتَنِي فَتَرَكْتُ، وَنَهَيْتَنِي فَرَكِبْتُ،
Allāhumma innaka amartanī fa-taraktu, wa nahaytanī fa-rakibt,
O God, surely You commanded me, and I abandoned, and You forbade me, and I committed,
وَسَوَّلَ لِيَ الْخَطَأَ خَاطِرُ السُّوءِ فَفَرَّطْتُ،
wa sawwala liya al-khaṭa’ khuṭūru as-sū’ fa-farraṭt,
and the thought of evil tempted me to error, and I neglected,
وَلا أَسْتَشْهِدُ عَلَى صِيَامِي نَهَـاراً،
wa lā astashhidu ‘alā ṣiyāmī nahārā,
and I do not call to witness my fasting by day,
وَلاَ أَسْتَجِيرُ بِتَهَجُّدِي لَيْلاً،
wa lā astajīru bi-tahajjjudī laylā,
nor do I seek refuge in my night vigil,
وَلاَ تُثْنِي عَلَيَّ بِإحْيَائِهَا سُنَّةٌ
wa lā tuthnī ‘alayya bi-iḥyā’ihā sunnah
and no supererogatory act praises me for reviving it,
حَـاشَا فُرُوضِـكَ الَّتِي مَنْ ضَيَّعَها هَلَكَ،
ḥāshā furūḍika allatī man ḍayya‘ahā halak,
except for Your obligatory duties, which he who neglects them perishes.
وَلَسْتُ أَتَوَسَّلُ إلَيْكَ بِفَضْلِ نَافِلَة
wa lastu atawassalu ilayka bi-faḍli nāfilah
And I do not draw close to You by the merit of a supererogatory prayer,
مَعَ كَثِيرِ مَا أَغْفَلْتُ مِنْ وَظَائِفِ فُرُوضِكَ،
ma‘a kathīri mā aghfaltu min waẓā’ifi furūḍik,
along with the great deal I have neglected of the functions of Your obligatory duties,
وَتَعَدَّيْتُ عَنْ مَقَامَاتِ حُدُودِكَ
wa ta‘addaytu ‘an maqāmāti ḥudūdik
and transgressed beyond the bounds of Your limits,
إلَى حُرُمَات انْتَهَكْتُهَا، وَكَبَائِرِ ذُنُوب اجْتَرَحْتُهَا
ilā ḥurumātin intahaktuhā, wa kabā’iri dhunūbin ijtaraḥtuhā
to sacred things that I violated, and major sins that I committed,
كَانَتْ عَافِيَتُكَ لِي مِنْ فَضَائِحِهَا سِتْراً.
kānat ‘āfiyatuka lī min faḍā’iḥihā sitrā.
while Your well-being was a covering for me from their disgraces.
وَهَذَا مَقَامُ مَنِ اسْتَحْيَى لِنَفْسِهِ مِنْكَ،
Wa hādhā maqāmu mani istaḥyā li-nafsihī mink,
And this is the station of him who was ashamed of himself before You,
وَسَخِطَ عَلَيْهَا، وَرَضِيَ عَنْكَ
wa sakhiṭa ‘alayhā, wa raḍiya ‘ank
and became angry with it, and was pleased with You.
فَتَلَقَّاكَ بِنَفْس خَاشِعَة، وَرَقَبَة خَاضِعَة، وَظَهْر مُثْقَل مِنَ الْخَطَايَا
Fa-talaqqāka bi-nafsin khāshi‘ah, wa raqabatin khāḍi‘ah, wa ẓahrin muthqalin mina al-khaṭāyā
So he met You with a humble soul, a submissive neck, and a back heavily laden with errors,
وَاقِفاً بَيْنَ الرَّغْبَةِ إلَيْكَ وَالرَّهْبَةِ مِنْكَ،
wāqifan bayna ar-raghbati ilayka wa ar-rahbati mink,
standing between desire for You and dread of You.
وَأَنْتَ أَوْلَى مَنْ رَجَـاهُ،
Wa anta awlā man rajāh,
And You are the worthiest of those he has hoped for,
وَأَحَقُّ مَنْ خَشِيَـهُ وَاتّقـاهُ،
wa aḥaqqu man khashiyahū wa ittqāh,
and the most entitled of those he has feared and guarded against.
فَاعْطِنِي يَا رَبِّ مَا رَجَوْتُ، وَآمِنِّي مَا حَذِرْتُ،
Fa-‘aṭinī yā Rabbi mā rajawtu, wa āminnī mā ḥadhirt,
So give me, O Lord, what I have hoped for, and grant me security from what I have warned against,
وَعُدْ عَلَيَّ بِعَائِدَةِ رَحْمَتِكَ إنَّكَ أكْرَمُ الْمَسْؤُولِينَ.
wa ‘ud ‘alayya bi-‘ā’idati raḥmatik innaka akramu al-mas’ūlīn.
and revert to me with the benefit of Your mercy, surely You are the Most Generous of those asked.
أَللَّهُمَّ وَإذْ سَتَـرْتَنِي بِعَفْوِكَ وَتَغَمَّـدْتَنِي بِفَضْلِكَ
Allāhumma wa idh satartanī bi-‘afwika wa taghammadtanī bi-faḍlik
O God, since You covered me with Your pardon and submerged me in Your favor,
فِي دَارِ الْفَنَاءِ بِحَضرَةِ الأكْفَاءِ
fī dāri al-fanā’ bi-ḥaḍrati al-akfā’
in the abode of passing away, in the presence of equals,
فَأَجِرْنِي مِنْ فَضِيحَاتِ دَارِ الْبَقَاءِ
fa-ajirnī min faḍīḥāti dāri al-baqā’
then shelter me from the disgraces of the abode of permanence,
عِنْدَ مَوَاقِفِ الأشْهَادِ مِنَ الْمَلائِكَةِ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ
‘inda mawāqif al-ashhād mina al-malā’ikati al-muqarrabīn
at the standing-places of the witnesses: the nearest angels,
وَالرُّسُلِ الْمُكَرَّمِينَ وَالشُّهَدَاءِ وَالصَّالِحِينَ،
wa ar-rusuli al-mukarramīn wa ash-shuhadā’ wa aṣ-ṣāliḥīn,
the honored Messengers, the martyrs, and the righteous,
مِنْ جَارٍ كُنْتُ أُكَاتِمُهُ سَيِّئاتِي
min jārin kuntu ukātimuhū sayyi’ātī
from a neighbor whom I used to conceal my evil deeds from,
وَمِنْ ذِي رَحِم كُنْتُ أَحْتَشِمُ مِنْهُ فِي سَرِيرَاتِي،
wa min dhī raḥimin kuntu aḥtashimu minhu fī sarīrātī,
and from a relative whom I used to feel ashamed before concerning my secrets.
لَمْ أَثِقْ بِهِمْ رَبِّ فِي السِّتْرِ عَلَيَّ،
Lam athiq bihim Rabbi fī as-sitr ‘alayya,
I did not trust them, my Lord, in covering me,
وَوَثِقْتُ بِكَ رَبِّ فِي الْمَغفِرَةِ لِيْ،
wa wathiqtu bika Rabbi fī al-maghfirah lī,
but I trusted in You, my Lord, in forgiving me,
وَأَنْتَ أوْلَى مَنْ وُثِقَ بِهِ وَأَعْطَى مَنْ رُغِبَ إلَيْهِ
wa anta awlā man wuthiqa bihī wa a‘ṭā man rughiba ilayh
and You are the worthiest of those trusted, and the most giving of those desired,
وَأَرْأَفُ مَنِ اسْتُرْحِمَ فَارْحَمْنِي.
wa ar’afu mani isturḥim fa-irḥamnī.
and the most compassionate of those whose mercy is sought, so have mercy on me.
أَللهُمَّ وَأنتَ حَدَرْتَنِي مَاءً مَهِيناً مِنْ صُلب،
Allāhumma wa anta ḥadartanī mā’an mahīnan min ṣulb,
O God, You caused me to descend as a despised water from a loins,
مُتَضَائِقِ الْعِظَامِ حَرِجِ الْمَسَالِكِ
mutaḍā’iqi al-g‘iẓām ḥariji al-masālik
narrow in bones, difficult in passages,
إلَى رَحِم ضَيِّقَة سَتَرْتَهَا بِالْحُجُبِ
ilā raḥimin ḍayyiqah satartahā bi-al-ḥujub
to a narrow womb that You covered with veils.
تُصَرِّفُنِي حَالاً عَنْ حَالٍ حَتَّى انْتَهَيْتَ بِيْ إلَى تَمَامِ الصُّورَةِ
tuṣarrifunī ḥālan ‘an ḥālin ḥattā intahayta bī ilā tamāmi aṣ-ṣūrah
You varied me from one state to another until You brought me to the completion of the form,
وَأَثْبَتَّ فِيَّ الْجَوَارحَ
wa athbattat fiyya al-jawāriḥ
and established the limbs in me,
كَمَا نَعَتَّ فِي كِتَابِكَ
kamā na‘atta fī kitābik
as You described in Your Book:
نُطْفَةً ثُمَّ عَلَقَةً ثُمَّ مُضْغَةً ثُمَّ عِظَاماً
nuṭfatan thumma ‘alaqatan thumma muḍghatan thumma ‘iẓāmā
a drop, then a clot, then a lump of flesh, then bones,
ثُمَّ كَسَوْتَ الْعِظَامَ لَحْماً ثُمَّ أَنْشَأتَنِي خَلْقَاً آخَرَ كَمَا شِئْتَ،
thumma kasawta al-‘iẓāma laḥmā thumma ansha’tanī khalqan ākharā kamā shi’t,
then You clothed the bones with flesh, then You brought me forth as another creation, as You willed,
حَتَّى إذَا احْتَجْتُ إلَى رِزْقِكَ،
ḥattā idhā iḥtajtu ilā rizqik,
until when I needed Your provision,
وَلَمْ أَسْتَغْنِ عَنْ غِيَـاثِ فَضْلِكَ
wa lam astaghnī ‘an ghiyāth faḍlik
and could not dispense with the help of Your favor,
جَعَلْتَ لِي قُـوتـاً مِنْ فَضْلِ طَعَام وَشَرَاب
ja‘alta lī qūtan min faḍli ṭa‘āmin wa sharāb
You made for me sustenance from the excess of food and drink
أَجْرَيْتَهُ لِامَتِكَ الَّتِيْ أَسْكَنْتَنِي جَوْفَهَا وَأَوْدَعْتَنِي قَرَارَ رَحِمِهَا،
ajraytahū li-amatika allatī askantanī jawfahā wa awda‘tanī qarāra raḥimihā,
that You caused to flow for Your female servant in whose belly You lodged me and in the settled place of whose womb You deposited me.
وَلَوْ تَكِلُنِي يَا رَبِّ فِي تِلْكَ الْحَـالاتِ إلَى حَوْلِي،
Wa law takilunī yā Rabbi fī tilka al-ḥālāt ilā ḥawlī,
And if You had abandoned me, O Lord, in those states to my own ability,
أَوْ تَضْطَرُّنِي إلَى قُوّتي
aw taḍṭarrunī ilā quwwatī
or compelled me to my own strength,
لَكَانَ الْحَوْلُ عَنِّي مُعْتَزِلاً، وَلَكَانَتِ الْقُوَّةُ مِنِّي بَعِيدَةً،
la-kāna al-ḥawlu ‘annī mu‘tazilā, wa la-kānat al-quwwatu minnī ba‘īdah,
the ability would have been withdrawn from me, and the strength would have been far from me.
فَغَذَوْتَنِي بِفَضْلِكَ غِذَاءَ الْبَرِّ اللَّطِيفِ ،
Fa-ghadhawtanī bi-faḍlika ghidhā’a al-barri al-laṭīf,
So You nourished me with Your favor, the nourishment of the Kind, Gentle One,
تَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ بِي تَطَوُّلاً عَلَيَّ إلَى غَايَتِي هَذِهِ،
taf‘alu dhālika bī taṭawwulan ‘alayya ilā ghāyatī hādhih,
doing that to me as a bounty upon me, until this present time of mine.
لاَ أَعْدَمُ بِرَّكَ وَلاَ يُبْطِئُ بِي حُسْنُ صَنِيعِكَ،
Lā a‘damu birraka wa lā yubṭi’u bī ḥusnu ṣanī‘ik,
I am not deprived of Your goodness, nor is the excellence of Your making slow for me.
وَلاَ تَتَأكَّدُ مَعَ ذَلِكَ ثِقَتِي،
wa lā tata’akkadu ma‘a dhālika thiqatī,
Yet, with all that, my trust is not confirmed,
فَأَتَفَرَّغَ لِمَا هُوَ أَحْظَى لِيْ عِنْدَكَ،
fa-atafarraġa li-mā huwa aḥẓā lī ‘indak,
so that I might devote myself to what is more felicitous for me with You.
قَدْ مَلَكَ الشَّيْطَانُ عِنَانِي فِي سُوءِ الظَّنِّ وَضَعْفِ الْيَقِينِ،
Qad malaka ash-shayṭānu ‘inānī fī sū’i aẓ-ẓann wa ḍa‘fi al-yaqīn,
Satan has taken hold of my rein through ill opinion and weakness of certainty,
فَأَنَا أَشْكُو سُوْءَ مُجَاوَرَتِهِ لِي وَطَـاعَةَ نَفْسِي لَـهُ،
fa-anā ashkū sū’a mujāwaratihī lī wa ṭā‘ata nafsī lah,
so I complain of the evil of his neighboring me and the obedience of my soul to him.
وَأَسْتَعْصِمُـكَ مِنْ مَلَكَتِهِ، وَأَتَضَـرَّعُ إلَيْكَ فِي صَرفِ كَيْدِهِ عَنّي
wa asta‘ṣimuka min malakatih, wa ataḍarra‘u ilayka fī ṣarf kaydihī ‘annī
And I ask You for protection from his dominion, and I implore You to turn his trickery away from me,
وَ أسأَلُكَ فِي أَنْ تُسَهِّلَ إلَى رِزْقِي سَبِيلاً،
wa as’aluka fī an tusahhila ilā rizqī sabīlā,
and I ask You to make easy a path to my provision.
فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلَى ابْتِدَائِكَ بِالنِّعَمِ الْجِسَامِ،
Fa-laka al-ḥamdu ‘alā ibtidā’ika bi-an-ni‘ami al-jisām,
So praise belongs to You for Your initiation of immense blessings,
وَإلْهَامِكَ الشُّكْرَ عَلَى الإحْسَانِ وَالإِنْعَامِ ،
wa ilhāmika ash-shukra ‘alā al-iḥsān wa al-in‘ām,
and Your inspiration of thanks for kindness and favor.
فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ
Fa-ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammad wa ālih
So bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَسَهِّلْ عَلَيَّ رِزْقِي وَأَنْ تُقَنِّعَنِي بِتَقْدِيرِكَ لِيْ ،
wa sahhil ‘alayya rizqī wa an tuqanni‘anī bi-taqdīrika lī,
and make my provision easy for me, and make me content with Your destiny for me,
وَأَنْ تُرْضِيَنِي بِحِصَّتِيْ فِيمَا قَسَمْتَ لِيْ،
wa an turḍiyanī bi-ḥiṣṣatī fīmā qasamt lī,
and satisfy me with my portion in what You have allocated for me,
وَأَنْ تَجْعَـلَ مَـا ذَهَبَ مِنْ جِسْمِيْ وَعُمُرِيْ
wa an taj‘ala mā dhahaba min jismī wa ‘umurī
and make what has passed of my body and my life
فِي سَبِيْلِ طَاعَتِكَ إنَّكَ خَيْرُ الرَّازِقِينَ.
fī sabīli ṭā‘atik innaka khayru ar-rāziqīn.
in the way of Your obedience, surely You are the best of providers.
أَللَهُمَّ إنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مَنْ نَارٍ تَغَلَّظْتَ بِهَا عَلَى مَنْ عَصَاكَ،
Allāhumma innī a‘ūdhu bika min nārin taghallaẓta bihā ‘alā man ‘aṣāk,
O God, I seek refuge in You from a Fire by which You showed severity toward whoever disobeyed You,
وَتَوَعَّدْتَ بِهَا مَنْ صَدَفَ عَنْ رِضَاكَ،
wa tawa‘‘adta bihā man ṣadafa ‘an riḍāk,
and with which You threatened whoever turned away from Your pleasure,
وَمِنْ نَارٍ نُورُهَا ظُلْمَةٌ وَهَيِّنُهَا أَلِيمٌ، وَبَعِيدُهَا قَرِيبٌ،
wa min nārin nūruhā ẓulmah wa hayyinuhā alīm, wa ba‘īduhā qarīb,
and from a Fire whose light is darkness, whose ease is painful, and whose far is near,
وَمِنْ نَارٍ يَأْكُلُ بَعْضَهَا بَعْضٌ،
wa min nārin ya’kulu ba‘ḍahā ba‘ḍ,
and from a Fire some of which devours some,
وَيَصُولُ بَعْضُهَا عَلَى بَعْض،
wa yaṣūlu ba‘ḍuhā ‘alā ba‘ḍ,
and some of which assaults some,
وَمِنْ نَارٍ تَذَرُ الْعِظَامَ رَمِيماً،
wa min nārin tadharu al-‘iẓāmā ramīmā,
and from a Fire that leaves the bones as decayed dust,
وَتَسْقِي أَهْلَهَا حَمِيماً ،
wa tasqī ahlahā ḥamīmā,
and gives its inhabitants scalding water to drink,
وَمِنْ نَارٍ لاَ تُبْقِي عَلَى مَنْ تَضَرَّعَ إلَيْهَا،
wa min nārin lā tubqī ‘alā man taḍarra‘a ilayhā,
and from a Fire that does not spare whoever implores it,
وَلاَ تَرْحَمُ مَنِ اسْتَعْطَفَهَا،
wa lā tarḥamu mani ista‘ṭafahā,
and does not pity whoever asks for its compassion,
وَلاَ تَقْدِرُ عَلَى التَّخْفِيفِ عَمَّنْ خَشَعَ لَهَا وَاسْتَسْلَمَ إلَيْهَا،
wa lā taqdiru ‘alā at-takhfīf ‘amman khasha‘a lahā wa istaslama ilayhā,
and cannot alleviate from whoever is humbled before it and surrenders to it.
تَلْقَى سُكَّانَهَا بِأَحَرِّ مَا لَدَيْهَا مِنْ أَلِيْمِ النَّكَالِ وَشَدِيدِ الْوَبَالِ،
Talqā sukkānahā bi-aḥarri mā ladayhā min alīmi an-nakāl wa shadīd al-wabāl,
It meets its inhabitants with the hottest of what it possesses of painful retribution and severe wretchedness.
وَأَعُوذُ بكَ مِنْ عَقَارِبِهَا الْفَاغِرَةِ أَفْوَاهُهَا،
Wa a‘ūdhu bikā min ‘aqāribihā al-fāghirah afwāhuhā,
And I seek refuge in You from its scorpions whose mouths are wide open,
وَحَيّاتِهَا الصَّالِقَةِ بِأَنْيَابِهَا،
wa ḥayyātihā aṣ-ṣāliqah bi-anyābihā,
and its serpents that strike with their fangs,
وَشَرَابِهَا الَّذِي يُقَطِّعُ أَمْعَاءَ وَأَفْئِدَةَ سُكَّانِهَا، وَيَنْزِعُ قُلُوبَهُمْ،
wa sharābihā alladhī yuqaṭṭi‘u am‘ā’ wa af’idata sukkānihā, wa yanzi‘u qulūbahum,
and its drink which cuts up the intestines and hearts of its inhabitants and tears out their hearts.
وَأَسْتَهْدِيْكَ لِمَا بَاعَدَ مِنْهَا وَأَخَّرَ عَنْهَا.
Wa astahdīka li-mā bā‘ada minhā wa akhkhara ‘anhā.
And I ask You for guidance to what keeps far from it and delays from it.
أَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِـهِ
Allāhumma ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammad wa ālih
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,
وَأَجِرْنِي مِنْهَا بِفَضْلِ رَحْمَتِكَ،
wa ajirnī minhā bi-faḍli raḥmatik,
and shelter me from it through the favor of Your mercy,
وَأَقِلْنِي عَثَرَاتِي بِحُسْنِ إقَالَتِكَ ،
wa aqilnī ‘atharātī bi-ḥusni iqālatik,
and pardon my slips through the excellence of Your pardon,
وَلاَ تَخْذُلْنِي يَا خَيْرَ الْمُجيرِينَ
wa lā takhdhulnī yā khayra al-mujīrīn
and do not forsake me, O best of those who grant shelter.
أَللَّهُمَّ إنَّكَ تَقِي الْكَرِيهَةَ ، وَتُعْطِي الْحَسَنَةَ ،
Allāhumma innaka taqī al-karīhah, wa tu‘ṭī al-ḥasanah,
O God, surely You ward off the detested, and You give the good,
وَتَفْعَلُ مَا تُرِيـدُ وَأَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء قَدِيرٌ.
wa taf‘alu mā turīd wa anta ‘alā kulli shay’in qadīr.
and You do what You will, and You are powerful over everything.
أَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ، إذَا ذُكِرَ الأبْرَارُ،
Allāhumma ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammad wa ālih, idhā dhukira al-abrār,
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household when the righteous are mentioned,
وَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ مَا اخْتَلَفَ اللَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ
wa ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammad wa ālihī mā ikhtalafa al-laylu wa an-nahār
and bless Muhammad and his Household as long as the night and the day follow each other,
صَلاَةً لاَ يَنْقَطِعُ مَدَدُهَا،
ṣalātan lā yanqaṭi‘u madaduhā,
a blessing whose supply is not cut off,
وَلاَ يُحْصَى عَدَدُهَا صَلاَةً تَشْحَنُ الْهَوَاءَ،
wa lā yuḥṣā ‘adaduhā ṣalātan tashḥanu al-hawā’,
and whose number is not counted, a blessing that loads the atmosphere,
وَتَمْلاُ الأرْضَ وَالسَّماءَ.
wa tamla’u al-arḍ wa as-samā’.
and fills the earth and the sky.
صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى يَرْضَى،
Ṣallā Allāhu ‘alayhī ḥattā yarḍā,
May God bless him until He is pleased,
وَصَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ
wa ṣallā Allāhu ‘alayhī wa ālihī
and may God bless him and his Household
بَعْدَ الرِّضَا صَلاَةً لا حَدَّ لَها
ba‘da ar-riḍā ṣalātan lā ḥadda lahā
after His pleasure, with a blessing that has no limit
وَلاَ مُنْتَهَى يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ.
wa lā muntahā yā arḥama ar-rāḥimīn.
and no end, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
