Imam `Ali Amir al-Mu’minin

This supplication, is reported from Imam `Ali Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) at the Night of Hijrah, is said each morning and evening.]

asbahtu allahumma mu`tasiman bidhimamika almani`i

O Allah, I have begun this morning seeking refuge with Your invulnerable security

alladhi la yutawalu wa la yuhawalu

that is neither touched nor caught

min sharri kulli ghashimin wa tariqin

against the evil of all oppressive and domineering ones

min sa'iri man khalaqta wa ma khalaqta

from among all Your animate and inanimate creatures

min khalqika alssamiti walnnatiqi

both the silent and the speaking;

fi junnatin min kulli makhufin

and being in protection against all terrifying things;

bilibasin sabighatin

and being in the complete garb

wa la'i ahli bayti nabiyyika

of my loyalty to the Household of Your Prophet;

muhtajiban min kulli qasidin li ila adhiyyatin

and veiling myself against all those who intend harm to me,

bijidarin hasinin

behind an impervious wall,

al-ikhlasi fil-i`tirafi bihaqqihim

which is my sincerity in the profession of their (Divinely commissioned) right (of leadership)

walttamassuki bihablihim

and my adherence to their Rope,

muqinan anna alhaqqa lahum wa ma`ahum

and bearing with certainty that the Right is theirs, with them,

wa fihim wa bihim

in them, and amid them.

uwali man walaw

I thus accede to those whom they accept

wa ujanibu man janabu

and depart those whom they depart.

fa-a`idhni allahumma bihim

O Allah, protect me, in the names of them,

min sharri kulli ma attaqihi ya `azimu

against the evil of all that which I fear, O All-great.

hajaztu al-a`adiya `anni bibadi`i alssamawati wal-ardi

I am restraining the enemies against me through the Originator of the heavens and the earth;

inna ja`alna min bayni aydihim saddan

“And We have set a bar before them

wa min khalfihim saddan

and a bar behind them,

fa-aghshaynahum fahum la yubsiruna

and (thus) have covered them so that they see not.”
