After the passing of the individual, it is mustahab (recommended) to do the following:
Close the eyes and mouth of the deceased
Ensure that his/her arms and legs are straight, if possible
Cover the body of the deceased with a sheet of cloth
An autopsy should not be performed on the deceased unless it involves the police or a medical investigation, in which case there is no option but to allow it
The wali must ensure that the death certificate is signed by the attending physician in order for arrangements to be made for ghusl
It is recommended to perform the ghusl as soon as possible and not delay the burial
It is wajib (obligatory) on all to perform Ghusl-e-Mayyit (washing), give Kafan (shrouding), and bury every deceased Muslim. However, if one or more persons undertake to do this, it is called Wajib-e-Kifaai and absolves the responsibility on others Funeral Expenses
Per Islamic law, it is obligatory to pay all funeral expenses from the estate of the deceased. It is highly recommended that the family of the deceased give Sadaqah (charity) before the burial for the thawab and maghfirat of the deceased.
