57. His supplication in seeking sustenance

Allāhumma ṣun wajhī bil-yasār, wa lā tabdhul jāhī bil-iqtār

O Allah, protect my face with ease (sufficiency), and do not disgrace my honor with poverty,

fa-astarziqa ṭālibī rizqika, wa asta'ṭifa shirāra khalqika

Lest I seek provision from those who seek Your provision, and seek the favor of the worst of Your creation,

fa-ubtalā bi-ḥamdi man a'ṭānī, wa aftatina bi-dhammi man mana'anī

Lest I be tested by praising whoever gives me, and be tempted by blaming whoever withholds from me,

wa anta min warā'i dhālika waliyyu al-i'ṭā'i wal-man'i, innaka 'alā kulli shay'in qadīr

While You are, behind all of that, the Master of giving and withholding. Indeed, You are over all things competent.
