Muhammad bin Muslim al-Thaqafi narrates that he heard Abu Ja'far al-Baqir (Imam Baqir) (a.s) saying: When any of you is afflicted by the sorrows of this world, there is nothing to prevent him from praying two rak'ats (units of prayer) on Friday, praising and glorifying Allah, sending blessings on Muhammad (s.a.w.w) and his family, then spreading his hands and saying a specific supplication.

Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem
In the name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful.

O Allah, I ask You for You are the King, and that You have power over all things, the Capable One, and that whatever You will of any matter comes to be, and whatever Allah wills of anything comes to be. I turn to You through Your Prophet, the Prophet of Mercy, Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family). O Messenger of Allah, I turn to Allah, my Lord and your Lord, through you, so that He may fulfill my request through you and decide my need through you. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and fulfill my request, and decide my need through my turning to You by Your Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family).
O Allah, whoever from Your creation intends me with injustice or harm or evil or malice or plot from jinn or human, near or far, small or great—bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, constrain his chest, paralyze his tongue, shorten his hand, blind his sight, thrust into his throat, crush his head, weaken his plot, protect me from his evil and rage, occupy him with his own self, and suffice me against him by Your power, strength, might, greatness, authority, dominion, and prevention—mighty is Your authority, exalted is Your majesty, there is no god but You, no power nor strength except by You. O Allah, You have power over all things.
Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammadin wa al Muhammadin wal mah man aradani bisu'in minka lamhatan tuhinu biha kainadahu wa taghlibu biha makrahu wa tud'ifu biha quwwatahu wa taksiru biha hiddatahu wa turiddu biha kainadahu fi nahrihi ya rabbi wa rabba kulli shai'in.
O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and protect from whoever intends me with evil a glance that weakens his plot, overcomes his cunning, weakens his strength, breaks his sharpness, and returns his plot against his own throat, O my Lord and Lord of all things.
Repeat three times:
Allahumma inni istakfika zulma man lam ta'izhu al-mawā'izu wa lam tamna'uhu minni al-masā'ibu wa lā al-ghairu.
O Allah, I ask You to suffice me against the oppression of one whom admonitions do not deter and calamities do not prevent from me, nor envy.
Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammadin wa aali Muhammadin washghalhu 'anni bi shaglin shagilin fi nafsihi wa jamii'i ma yu'anihi innaka 'ala kulli shai'in qadirun. Allahumma inni bika a'udhu wa bika uladhu wa bika astajiru min sharri fulanin (tusammihi) fa innaka takfah u in sha Allahu.
O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and occupy him away from me with an absorbing occupation in himself and all he suffers. Indeed, You have power over all things. O Allah, I seek refuge in You, I take refuge with You, and I seek protection with You from the evil of so-and-so (name him)—for You suffice against him, God willing.
