Dua 35 His supplication for contentment when looking at the people of this world

allāhumma ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammadin wa-ālihi

O Allah, bless Muhammad and his family.

al-ḥamdu lillāhi riḍan bi-ḥukmi llāh

All praise is for Allah, in satisfaction with His decree.

shahidtu anna llāha qasama ma‘āyisha ‘ibādihi bil-‘adli

I bear witness that Allah divided the livelihoods of His servants with justice.

wa-akhadha ‘alā jamī‘i khalqihi bil-faḍli

And He deals with all His creation with grace.

allāhumma ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammadin wa-ālihi

O Allah, bless Muhammad and his family.

wa-lā taftinnī bimā a‘ṭaytahum

And do not test me with what You have given them.

wa-lā taftinhum bimā mana‘tanī

And do not test them with what You withheld from me.

fa-aḥsuda khalqaka, wa-aghmita ḥukmaka

So that I do not envy Your creation, nor reject Your judgment.

allāhumma ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammadin wa-ālihi

O Allah, bless Muhammad and his family.

wa-ṭayyib bi-qaḍā’ika nafsī

And make my soul content with Your decree.

wa-wassi‘ bimawāqi‘i ḥukmika ṣadrī

And expand my chest through the places of Your judgment.

wa-hab lī ath-thiqata li-uqirra ma‘ahā

And grant me trust so that I acknowledge with it—

bi-anna qaḍā’aka lam yajri illā bil-khīrati

That Your decree runs only with wisdom and goodness.

wa-j‘al shukrī laka ‘alā mā zawayta ‘annī

And make my gratitude to You for what You withheld from me—

awfara min shukrī iyyāka ‘alā mā khawwaltanī

Greater than my gratitude for what You granted me.

wa-‘ṣimnī min an aẓunna bidhī ‘adamin khasāsatan

And protect me from thinking the poor are lowly.

aw aẓunna bi-ṣāḥibi tharwatin faḍlan

Or from thinking that the wealthy have virtue.

fa-inna sh-sharīfa man sharrafaṯhu ṭā‘atuka

For the noble one is he whom Your obedience ennobles.

wal-‘azīza man a‘azzat-hu ‘ibādatuka

And the mighty is he whom Your worship strengthens.

fa-ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammadin wa-ālihi

So bless Muhammad and his family.

wa-matti‘nā bitharwatin lā tanfadu

And grant us an endless wealth.

wa-ayyidnā bi-‘izzin lā yufqadu

And support us with a strength that never vanishes.

wa-asriḥnā fī mulki l-abad

And let us roam freely in the kingdom of eternity.

innaka l-wāḥidu l-aḥadu ṣ-ṣamadu

Indeed, You are the One, the Only, the Eternal Refuge.

alladhī lam talid wa-lam tūlad

The One who neither begets nor is begotten.

wa-lam yakun laka kufuwan aḥad

And none is comparable to You.
